Well, the fact that I am writing this and that my kids are back in school let's you know that I did indeed survive a harrowing experience camping high in the mountains of Colorado. A moment of silence please.....I camped. I camped without running water and proper plumbing if you understand my meaning. Ladies, this was not pleasant! Need I say more?
But...I did it....I honestly think I proved to my skeptical husband and disbelieving boys that I can be a team player and one tough cookie when I have to. Although I don't ever want to "have to" again. My point is proven and I do not feel the need to repeat the experience.
We camped in a tent, drove Clear Lake, Imogen Pass, and the granddaddy of all trails, Black Bear Pass in John's beloved Toyote Landcruiser. I was scared senseless, doubted my sanity, and questioned this crazy man I married who actually thought this was fun. We went white water rafting, rode the Silverton-Durango Train, shopped the stores, and ate the wonderful food. It was the full Colorado experience. John and I honeymooned in Colorado (almost 20) years ago and I kind of claim this state as my own.
My column in The Victoria Advocate chronicling my camping experience will be printed Sunday, September 14. I hope that everyone reads and enjoys my column, Smelly Socks!
